A
project being developed by the YMCA and Wendouree West Renewal with
assistance from the Ballarat Community Health Centre and the Wendouree
West Community House. The project has been funded by Primary Care
Partnership and will serve as a template for other Communities in the
future.
Building Strong People is all about engaging resident's over the age
of 55 in activity - both physical and social - and sometimes both at
the same time! In order to find out what the community wanted and/or
needed - a team of four Wendouree residents was chosen via an
application process. Three members Mavis, Adrian and Yvette work on
the project under the direction of the YMCA’s Karina Matthews.
A *survey* in the guise of a good natured short chat was developed under
the tutelage of Carli Lamb at BHCS and thus armed, the team went door
knocking to find out what it was that residents aged 55 and over would
like to be able to do. There was an excellent response rate among the
residents in the 55+ age range. The data has now been entered into a
database and concise results are being tabulated.
