Animals - Ballarat Wildlife Park

Set in 16 acres of beautiful peppermint gum woodland, you can experience close contact with koalas, kangaroos, emus and other native animals in an atmosphere

Visitor's Services
Visitors are welcome to Picnic and BBQ. BBQ function in the Bushman's Hut. Experience the unique atmosphere and tastes of an authentic 1840's style bush hut. barbeque or Spit Roast. Bushman's Hut is available for breakfast, lunch or dinner, for groups by prior arrangement.

Healesville Sanctuary

Opened in 1934, Healesville Sanctuary features Australian wildlife with more than 200 species of native birds, mammals and reptiles, displayed in a beautiful bushland setting.

Location
Healesville Sanctuary is 65 kilometres (41 miles) from Melbourne. If you are driving from Melbourne, head east along Maroondah Highway through Ringwood, Lilydale and Coldstream. Follow the signs to Healesville. Once in the township of Healesville, turn right into Badger Creek Road and travel 4 kilometres (2.5 miles). Signs at a roundabout will direct you to Healesville Sanctuary.

Group Bookings
Healesville Sanctuary is a popular attraction for group outings and tour groups. The Sanctuary has a team of trained voluntary guides who provide fascinating guided tours. (Bookings are essential).

The Bistro features an excellent range of wines produced locally in the Yarra Valley. Open weekdays - 11.00 noon to 3.30pm. Open weekends/public holidays - 11.00 noon to 4.00pm

Take Away Food
Fast food and healthy snacks, drinks, ice-cream and confectionery. Open weekdays - 10.00am to 4.30pm. Open weekends/public holidays - 10.00am to 5.00pm

BBQ & Picnic Facilities
Visitors are welcome to bring picnic and barbecue food into the Sanctuary. Picnic tables and shelters are provided along with a number of undercover gas and wood-burning barbecues.

The Sanctuary Shop
The Sanctuary Shop is a great place to purchase quality Australian-made and environmentally friendly gifts and souvenirs. All profits contribute to the care and upkeep of the animals and plants.

Umbrellas, Wheelchairs & Pushers
The Sanctuary has an easy-to-follow pathway system with access for people using wheelchairs and pushers. Wheelchairs, pushers and umbrellas are available for hire.
Pushers: $11.00 hire with $8.80 refundable deposit. Wheelchairs: $22.00 refundable deposit.
Umbrellas: $22.00 hire with $19.80 refundable deposit.

General presentations and diver presentations from inside the tank are held in the "Ocean Theatre". During January there will be additional presentations held due to extended opening hours . Content of presentations vary depending on who is making the presentation, animals in the tank and the audience.

NEW "Glass Bottom Boat Tours"
Take a behind the scenes tour and a glass bottom boat ride over our 2.2 million litre Oceanarium. Get up close to sharks, stingrays, turtles and over 3,000 fish of the Southern Ocean. You will get an in depth educational tour of the 'behind the scenes' action at the Melbourne Aquarium and a chance to talk to the divers and marine biologists.

Location
Melbourne Zoo is located only minutes from the city centre, within Royal Park. Car parking is available or visitors can take the tram or train to reach the Zoo. Tram 55 from William Street Monday-Saturday and Tram 68 from Elizabeth Street run on Sundays. Trains run from historic Flinders Street Station on the Upfield or Gowrie lines Monday through Sunday, stopping at Melbourne Zoo's own Royal Park Station.

Guided Tours
Friends of the Zoos volunteer guides offer free tours and answer visitors' questions at the information office near the Elliott Avenue entrance, 10.00am-3.00pm weekdays and 10.00am - 4.00pm weekends. For large groups it is preferable to pre-book tours on:

Licensed Bistro & Take Away Foods
The Lakeside Bistro is open for lunch and afternoon tea daily. Take-away outlets are open 9.30am-4.30pm daily. The Zoo also offers conference facilities for large and small meetings and seminars, as well as special after-hours functions in the grounds of the Zoo, which can incorporate tours of all or part of the Zoo.

Zoo Shop
Visit our Zoo Shops, located near the Main and Rail exits and discover the extensive range of unique gifts and souvenirs such as t-shirts, handmade jewellery, toys, CDs, ties, books, etc. A shop is also located at the Lakeside Bistro. All profits contribute to the care and upkeep of the animals.
  All our paths are suitable for both wheelchairs and pushers.
Umbrellas: $2.20 hire. Wheelchairs: free hire with $20 deposit (refundable), Bookings Essential. Pushers: $3.00 hire with $10.00 deposit (refundable). Lockers: are available for hire at both entrances. $2.00 hire with $5.00 deposit (refundable.) Note: All prices are GST inclusive. First Aid room and facilities are available.


Picnic Facilities
The Zoo’s picturesque lawns and undercover pavilions are available for hire providing an ambient setting for outdoor events and picnics. Undercover pavilions provide the perfect shelter for family and social picnics. The Zoo's expansive lawn areas are ideal for family picnics and large social parties. Depending on the needs of your group, marquees may also be set up. Opening Hours
Melbourne Zoo is open every day of the year (including Christmas Day and all public holidays) 9.00am - 5.00pm, and on selected summer evenings we open late (to 9.30pm) for Zoo Twilights.

The average length of a visit is approximately 4 hours, however each of the different habitat zones, for example the Australian zone, can be experienced in approximately one to one and a half hours.

Visitors arriving after 3.00pm should plan their visit to most exhibits well before 4.30pm on weekdays and 5.00pm on weekends and holidays.
