Get access to Wendouree West's Tool Pool, being set up through the Community Renewal and being run at the Wendouree West Community House. See what tools are available for loan.

Gardening - Ballarat Botanical Gardens

Botanical Gardens
The Ballarat Botanical Gardens is one of Australia's most significant cool climate gardens. It contains a remarkable collection of mature trees and marble statues set among colourful bedding displays.

Guided Tours

Guided Tours are conducted by the Friends of The Ballarat Botanical Gardens on the second Sunday of every month at 2pm. Plant sales are held at the 'Growing Friends' site at the rear of The Robert Clark Centre every Tuesday between 1pm and 4pm.

A detailed map of the Botanical Gardens for interstate and overseas visitors, school groups or anyone wishing to visit this beautiful area.

South Gardens
The South Garden is an area of less formal parkland with an avenue of mature cedars and elms. The Fish Hatchery and the Tramway Depot mark the boundary between the South Garden and the Botanical Garden.

Gardening - Care and Maintenance

Care And Maintenance For Specific Plants
Each plant is different and has it's own maintenance requirements. Plants need special care and it is important to give your plants the right attention.

Compost
Compost is made from rotted organic material, which, when added to garden soil, provides plants with essential foods and helps to aerate It. It also helps to break up heavy soils.

House Plants
House plants is a term collectively given to a group of foliage or flowering plants that will tolerate indoor conditions for different periods of time. They will give you superb value if you give them correct conditions. They will even assist in making your environment more healthy by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and will certainly add a wonderful feeling to your indoor environment. House plants given proper care, are easy to grow and very rewarding.

Lawns
Lawns are perhaps the most noticeable feature of the home garden as they provide the focus for outdoor activities, create a feeling of spaciousness and enhance the surrounding garden.

Macgardens
Macgardens provides horticultural services to the Ballarat region. These services are essentially Pruning, Planting, and Removal, and include specialist pruning of trees, vines, roses and hedges, planning and planting new gardens, renovating older gardens, and removal of green waste and trees.

Worms (For Producing Compost)
Compost worms differ from ordinary garden earthworms, in that they are better at eating and breeding, whereas common garden worms are great burrowers. Your compost worms are the Porsches or Ferraris of the worm world !!

Gardening - Clubs

Ballarat Seed Savers Club
A new local seed network, which interested people are welcomed to be involved in is planning to meet once a fortnight and will be involved in swapping seeds and planting materials; gardening information and skills; running stalls at local gardening events; and more depending on the interests and skills of group.

Cactus and Succulent
The Ballarat Cactus and Succulent Society is a friendly group of hobby growers interested in a wide variety of plants, who meet every second Friday of the month February through to December.

Creswick Garden Club
The Gardening Club meets monthly at St. John's Anglican Hall, Napier St. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Floral Art Group
The Creswick Floral Art Group meetings are in the form of demonstrations and workshops, and are on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 9.30am to noon approx.

Friends Of The Ballarat Botanical Gardens Inc
The Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens was founded in 1982 and became an incorporated body in 1993. The history of the Gardens has been researched and a number of activities undertaken for the benefit of the Gardens within a botanical perspective.

Linton Garden Club
The Linton Garden Club is a social club garden lovers. It meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 1.30pm in the Linton Recreation Hall.

The Robert Clark Centre
The Robert Clarke Centre is the meeting place for many horticultural and other groups. Some of the groups include Australian Plants Inc, the Ballarat Horticultural Society and the Ballarat Orchid Society, just to name a few.
